The April 28 episode of WWE NXT featured three new potential challengers for the current champion, Tony D’Angelo. But what really got people talking wasn’t just the sudden attacks he faced in the ring. Many fans didn’t like the way WWE introduced new talent Will Kroos during his debut.
The segment started with Tony D’Angelo speaking to the crowd. He called himself the top star of NXT and talked about how the roster is changing, with new challengers coming in from different places. He also mentioned the mysterious box he received last week.
Before he could say more, the lights suddenly went out. Former NJPW star EVIL made his WWE debut. Without uttering a word, he faced D’Angelo and handed him another cloth that was linked to the mystery box storyline.
As D’Angelo was still reacting, Tavion Heights rushed in and attacked him out of nowhere. Then, just when it seemed like things couldn’t get any more chaotic, someone in a black hoodie jumped into the ring and hit a moonsault on D’Angelo.
That person was later revealed to be Will Kroos, a 29-year-old wrestler from England with solid experience on the independent scene, including Progress Wrestling, where he held the Atlas Championship. But most viewers watching at home probably wouldn’t have known that, and WWE also didn’t do anything to remedy that.
Fans react to Will Kroos’ WWE NXT debut
The NXT commentator, Vic Joseph, kept asking who he was and even called him “a fan” who had jumped the barricade. It seemed like nobody even cared after he pulled off such an impressive move, that too on the NXT champion. This confused several viewers and made his debut feel weird and less important than it should have been.
Right after the show, many fans took to social media and addressed the issue. Many pointed out that Kroos isn’t some random guy; he has been wrestling since 2017. Calling him a fan, according to many, took all his credibility.
Some said it was disrespectful, while others were just confused. They weren’t sure if WWE was doing this on purpose as part of a storyline or simply a mistake.
However, it might be a storyline idea as well. WWE strictly avoids fans’ involvement, so presenting Kroos this way could lead to a unique story.
