An AEW mainstay could soon be approaching a major career crossroads, as a new report indicates that one of the company’s longtime powerhouses may be nearing the end of his current deal.
While AEW has confirmed nothing, the timing of this update places added focus on the months ahead. Whether a familiar presence will remain part of the roster or step into free agency remains to be seen.
Lance Archer’s AEW contract status reportedly set for July expiry
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lance Archer’s AEW contract is set to expire in July 2026. Dave Meltzer noted plainly, “Lance Archer’s contract expires in July,” placing a clear timeline on the situation.
Archer has been part of AEW since March 2020, debuting on Dynamite at Daily’s Place under the guidance of Jake Roberts.
He quickly entered a high-profile program that saw him reach the finals of the TNT Championship tournament, where he faced Cody Rhodes. It was a monster introduction — and since then, Archer has remained a consistent, if sometimes under-the-radar, force.
His most recent in-ring appearance under the AEW/ROH banner came during the March 28 ROH TV tapings in Jacksonville. Since then, his status has been relatively quiet. This makes this contract update land with a bit more impact — like a blackout before a big reveal.
Outside AEW, Archer’s resume speaks for itself. He is a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion alongside Davey Boy Smith Jr. as part of the Killer Elite Squad, a G1 Tag League winner with Minoru Suzuki, and a two-time IWGP United States Champion.
As July approaches, it remains unclear whether AEW will look to re-sign Archer or if he will test the market. For now, the clock is ticking — and much like a looming chokeslam, what happens next could come quickly.
