AEW Dynamite Results

The Death Riders make their way to the ring for the opening match, featuring Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli against Konosuke Takeshita and Hechicero.

Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Konosuke Takeshita and Hechicero

  • The finish of the match saw Claudio Castagnoli poke the eye of Hechicero, followed by an inside cradle pinfall for the win.

Winners: Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli

After the match, Lance Archer and Mark Davis head to the ring to assault the winners. Marina Shafir tries to intervene but gets dropped hard by Archer with a shoulder tackle. Takeshita is given a steel chair to attack a battered Moxley, but The Alpha decides against it, much to the chagrin of the rest of The Family. Hechicero tries to convince his tag team partner, but Takeshita is confident he’ll take care of Moxley at Revolution. The Don Callis Family exits the ring as Shafir tends to her fallen comrades.

Grade: B-

The inside cradle finish was definitely interesting. The Death Riders head to AEW Revolution with all the momentum on their side. That being said, the outcome has this writer convinced we’re getting a new AEW Continental Champion this Saturday, and I’m all here for Takeshita’s big victory.

Backstage segment with CMLL and TBS Champions

Renee Paquette is backstage with Persephone and Willow Nightingale. Willow congratulates Persephone on winning the CMLL Women’s World Championship from Mercedes Moné. Some fighting words are exchanged as the two competitors hype up their upcoming TBS Championship match on AEW Dynamite.

MJF talks business with Kyle Fletcher

Don Callis is giving Kyle Fletcher a prep talk ahead of his TNT Title defense against Mike Bailey when MJF shows up. The AEW World Champion wants Fletcher to take care of Bailey for hitting Friedman with a stiff strike the last time they crossed paths. Fletcher says he’ll take care of business for himself, not Maxwell. As MJF leaves, he tells Callis to make sure his guys know how to talk to a world champion. Fletcher then wonders if Callis is working for MJF. Don laughs it off.

Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Speedball Bailey – TNT Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Kyle Fletcher hit Mike Bailey with the title belt before planting him with a brainbuster for the win.

Winner and still TNT Champion: Kyle Fletcher

Grade: A+

This AEW Dynamite clash totally lived up to the expectation set by their previous meeting in the Continental Classic. Speedball was brilliant with all the counters he pulled off during the match. I would go as far as to say this was a textbook case of David vs. Goliath, except David was incredibly precise with his kicks and strikes. All the near falls made for a compelling closing stretch that ended with Fletcher picking up the win thanks to outside interference from Mark Davis and Kazuchika Okada.

Brody King in action

Brody King squashes a jobber with a Gonzo Bomb.

As King makes his way to the back, he is caught in chains by a masked man who shoves him into the ring post before revealing himself as Swerve Strickland.

Swerve puts the chains around King’s neck, but King snaps them in half like a twig, much to Strickland’s shock. King hits Strickland with a backdrop suplex and follows it up with a cannonball in the corner. Brody tries to choke Strickland the same way he did last week on AEW Dynamite, but Prince Nana arrives with a distraction, allowing Swerve to break away from the hold as the segment comes to a close.

We hear from Speedball Bailey

Renee Paquette is backstage with Mike Bailey following his controversial loss at the hands of Kyle Fletcher. Speedball says he could stand there and complain, but that’s not who he is. He says The Don Callis Family may have gotten the upper hand tonight, but Místico and JetSpeed will get back at them this Sunday at Revolution.

Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy vs. Gabe Kidd and David Finlay

  • The finish of the match saw War Dogs hit Darby Allin with a flurry of offense before Kidd capped off with a piledriver for the win.

Winners: Gabe Kidd and David Finlay

After the match, Clark Connors gets inside the ring and plants Orange Cassidy with a spear. The Dogs then call for Roderick Strong. Strong gets hold of OC, only to shove him into one of the Dogs before unleashing a flurry of offense on the former New Japan faction. After clearing the ring, Strong helps Cassidy to his feet, and the two reunite as The Dogs look on in disgust from the outside.

Grade: A-

Solid tag team match made even better by the post-match angle. After teasing a heel turn for weeks, Roderick Strong stayed loyal to his Conglomeration buddy, OC. Strong, Cassidy, and Allin against The Dogs seems to be the direction for AEW Revolution. Let’s see if we get the match made official by the end of the night.

Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Persephone – TBS Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Willow Nightingale reverse Persephone’s Crucifix Bomb attempt with a backslide pinfall for the win.

Winner and still TBS Champion: Willow Nightingale

Grade: C+

I wanted to like this match, but the slow and telegraphed nature made it hard to stay engaged. Both competitors looked like they were taking their time hitting the next spot. It’s not the fast-paced style I’m used to watching in All Elite Wrestling. That said, Willow remains one of the most beloved babyfaces on the roster. As for Persephone, we’ll likely see more of her because she has the IT factor.

Backstage, Willow Nightingale is with one-half of the Babes of Wrath, Harley Cameron. Willow says she got the very best in England and Mexico for her TBS Championship defense before calling out Lena Kross and Megan Bayne. The TBS Champion announces she will put her title on the line against Kross on the Revolution pre-show.

Dem Bucks vs. FTR and Tommaso Ciampa

  • The finish of the match saw Tommaso Ciampa plant Mark Briscoe with a running knee strike for the win.

Winners: FTR and Tommaso Ciampa

After the match, Ciampa continues his assault on Briscoe before introducing a chair to the ring. He hits Briscoe with a chair shot to the back, then sets up two chairs together, places Briscoe on the turnbuckle, and plants him all the way down onto the chairs in the ring. The former TNT Champion kisses a fallen Briscoe on the forehead as Bryan Danielson proclaims what a sick human being Tommaso Ciampa is.

Grade: A-

This was a fun match. Nick and Matt Jackson with the table spots were my favorite highlights from the bout. Ciampa’s alliance with FTR looks solid so far, given the wars he went through with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. Only if Ciampa had Gargano by his side, because the Rebel Heart is getting destroyed by Oba Femi on SmackDown.

MJF and Hangman Page press conference

Bryan Danielson moderates the press conference. The challenger, Adam Page, arrives first, followed by AEW World Champion MJF. Page is asked if the match is just for the title or if he’s looking for revenge after Friedman cost JetSet Rodeo the Trios Titles last week on AEW Dynamite. Hangman says it has been about the title since 2019 and that he will take what MJF holds dear come Revolution.

The final question is interesting, as Page is asked who he is without a title should he fail to beat MJF this Sunday. Friedman takes a shot at Page with his usual sarcasm, leaving the challenger unable to answer. MJF offers Page a toast, but Hangman shoves the drink away. Friedman spills the drink on Page’s face, sparking a brawl.

The fight reaches the ring, and Page gets the upper hand on MJF before security arrives to separate them. Page clears the ring. MJF has the Dynamite Diamond Ring, but Page scouts him and hits Friedman with a Dead Eye. Hangman introduces a barbed wire board and attempts to spike Friedman on top, but the champion escapes and flees the ring. Page and MJF taunt each other as the show closes.

Overall Grade: A-

I really enjoyed the final AEW Dynamite before Revolution. Kyle Fletcher and Speedball Bailey delivered a match of the year contender. Swerve Strickland and Brody King’s exchange was fun to watch and could lowkey be the match of the night this Sunday. The Trios Tag Team main event was great. It’s also exciting to see Tommaso Ciampa back to his Psycho Killer heel roots after the underwhelming last few months in WWE. As for the press conference, Page mumbling to answer the final question has this writer convinced he’s not walking away with the world title this Sunday at AEW Revolution. That’s it for tonight — this writer will be back with AEW Revolution coverage this weekend.
