Becky Lynch’s First WWE Run With Seth Rollins Failed For This Reason

Becky Lynch explained why her first on-screen pairing with Seth Rollins in WWE struggled to connect with fans.

Lynch and Rollins both reached the top of WWE in 2019 after WrestleMania 35. Lynch headlined the show by defeating Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey, while Rollins captured the Universal Championship by beating Brock Lesnar.

Not long after their individual success, WWE decided to pair Lynch and Rollins together on television. This happened just months after they began dating in real life. The decision quickly drew negative reactions from fans.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Lynch opened up about why that first run failed. She explained that they were still very new as a couple at the time. They had only been dating for about two months when WWE put them together on TV. She said they had not yet figured out their real-life relationship.

“The last time we didn’t know each other in our relationship setting. We just started dating. We were together like two months at that point. Then, all of a sudden, we were thrust onto TV and were trying to figure out how our dynamic as characters worked when we hadn’t even figured out how our dynamic in a relationship worked.”

Lynch admitted the situation felt uncomfortable and stressful. “If that wasn’t bad enough, you had the announcers every two seconds saying that we were in a real life relationship and people were just nauseated by it. We didn’t know what we were doing. We didn’t know how to interact with each other. It was tense, hard and difficult. We felt like we were doing something wrong.”

Becky Lynch says her dynamic with Seth Rollins is perfect now

Lynch compared that experience to their more recent on-screen reunion and said things are completely different now that they are married. “Now, we’ve been married for nearly five years, have a daughter together and know each other [more]. We’re very comfortable where we’re settled into our relationship and dynamic.”

“To be able to bring that to the screen with characters that are just larger than life and mesh together quite well [is great]. “Big Time Becks” and Seth Freakin Rollins are a bit much [laughs]. Together, it works out perfectly.” [H/T: Fightful]

Last year, nearly six years after their first run, Lynch and Rollins reunited on screen for a feud involving AJ Lee and CM Punk. That storyline led to a mixed tag team match at WWE WrestlePalooza, showing how much their on-screen chemistry has evolved.
