TNA took some playful shots at John Cena‘s retirement match during its Genesis pay-per-view.
In JDC‘s (also known as Fandango in his time in WWE) retirement match, he and Eddie Edwards went at it. Toward the end of the match, JDC, who was wearing Terry Funk-style pants, got caught in a sleeper hold. JDC then looked at the camera and smirked, much like Cena did in his final match, but didn’t give up. Instead, JDC stood up and got out of it.
TNA quickly posted the clip and jokingly called out that JDC didn’t “give up” when put in the hold.
The playful jab comes as many have criticized Cena’s final match against Gunther last month. In it, Cena tapped out while put in a sleeper hold, in a moment that saw Cena seem to peacefully give in to the hold.
Of course, much like Cena, JDC would go on to lose his retirement match. The match ended with Edwards hitting three Boston Knee Party’s on him, the last of which was enough to win. After the match, JDC was met in the ring by some other stars, while the locker room cheered him on.
