Andrade Understands Why WWE Is Enforcing His Non-Compete Clause

Andrade El Idolo isn’t sure if his AEW appearance prompted WWE to hit him with a no-compete clause.

After a short second stint under the Triple H regime, Andrade shocked the world with his surprise appearance at the AEW Dynamite sixth-anniversary show. The celebration quickly turned into controversy, as El Idolo was reportedly hit with a no-compete clause by his previous employer.

During a new interview with Eduardo Bates, Andrade opened up about his ongoing legal battle with WWE. He said he was initially upset about the clause before admitting he understands why WWE would resort to such a move.

“The current situation was that after my appearance in AEW and that I was in The Crash and won the Heavyweight Championship in Tijuana, on that Monday, I received a letter from the WWE company, where it said that it had a 12-month non-compete clause. My lawyers are currently in talks with WWE to reach the best deal. At first, it was a little closed and difficult on both sides because I was disoriented and a little upset about the clause. By WWE, I understand it of course, after my appearance in AEW. I don’t know if that was what annoyed WWE, I’m not sure.” [H/T Fightful]

Andrade on his short-lived WWE run

Earlier in the same interview, Andrade discussed his return to WWE at the 2024 Royal Rumble. He also spoke about his failed marriage to Charlotte Flair.

“I returned to WWE a year and a half ago,” he said. “I was in AEW, and at that time, I was happy earning millions, but I was married. My ex-wife’s name is Charlotte Flair, and the idea was to return to WWE, to be with her, and many things happened.

“We got divorced, and I was not comfortable in some things. I had a warning call because many medicines and supplements that in Mexico can be consumed but not there. We have certain restrictions on recipes that we cannot consume as athletes because of doping and things like that. I was also a little annoyed.”
