A quarter-final tournament match ended early on WWE Raw this week due to an injury sustained by Penta. Still, the result of it reportedly stayed the same.
According to Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com (via Wrestling Observer Radio), Solo Sikoa‘s win over Penta in the Last Time Is Now tournament was always planned. The duration of the match, on the other hand, drastically shifted once Penta suffered an injury in the midst of the action.
About four minutes into their bout, Sikoa launched Penta over the barricade and into the sea of fans. In response, Penta nailed Sikoa with a hurricanrana. Upon hitting the floor, Penta seemed to have landed awkwardly, as later evidenced by his favoring his left shoulder. Alvarez reports that once Penta’s injury became clear, Raw commentator Wade Barrett promptly called for a commercial break, while his broadcast colleague Joe Tessitore took in additional information.
Once back on the air, the referee ruled Solo Sikoa as the winner due to Penta being unable to continue competing. The match itself was said to originally be allotted about 12 minutes.
As of now, there is no word on the severity of Penta’s injury. With his victory, Sikoa now moves on to face former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in the semi-finals of The Last Time Is Now Tournament. Penta isn’t the only competitor pulled from the tournament due to injury, as Sheamus was also replaced due to a shoulder injury on SmackDown last Friday.
The winner of the tournament will earn the right to wrestle 17-time world champion John Cena in his last match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
