One of the fastest-rising stars in New Japan Pro Wrestling is the current NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd. He defended his championship against Ryohei Oiwa at last night’s Strong Style Evolve Pay-per-view. Despite being the Strong Openweight Champion he has not been booked for the upcoming Wrestle Kingdom 19 PPV. But AEW’s International Champion Konosuke Takeshita is booked for the show.
Recently, while speaking to Undisputed, Gabe Kidd shared that he finds it foolish that his Wrestle Kingdom spot has been taken up by AEW star Konosuke Takeshita.
“Once again, another AEW guy is fighting at Wrestle Kingdom instead of me,” said Gabe Kidd. “That’s foolish, that’s idiotic. I’m going to beat Oiwa, and I’m focused on him. Then maybe I’ll go find Takeshita.”
Kidd also had a few positive words for his Strong Style Evolve opponent Ryohei Oiwa.
“It’s dojo versus dojo, and I respect that about Oiwa,” said Kidd. “But it’s a 13-year veteran against a three-year prospect. I’m going to pick him apart like a veteran should.”
Speaking of the Strong Style Evolve PPV, the main event of the match features the current NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné. Kidd feels that he should be in the main event as he has worked hard and represents the brand more than Moné.
“I don’t care what Mercedes Moné has done, this is my brand,” said Kidd. “My matches are an experience. Nobody else can do what I do. Only I can provide that service, and that’s what you’ll see when I put my belt on the line.”
