Dustin Rhodes wants wrestling fans to stop using the term “jobber“.
The term has been used for decades in professional wrestling. To “do the job” was to lose the predetermined match. Thus, a jobber was somebody whose job was to exclusively lose matches.
They were an important part of wrestling, although the role has seemingly died out in recent years. A jobber was tasked with making their opponent look good at all times, to their own detriment. However, the word has now become an insult to some, including Dustin Rhodes.
The AEW star took to Twitter to ask fans to stop using the word “jobber”. He claimed it to be “extremely disrespectful”, and declared that the wrestlers are “enhancement talents” instead.
Dustin Rhodes told fans to show compassion instead of using the insulting language that he perceives jobber to be.
“Please stop using the term “Jobber”. It is extremely disrespectful to everyone who is putting their bodies on the line each week. All of us are “Enhancement Talent”. We enhance each others careers. Show compassion to everyone that steps in this business and works hard enhancing others. #KeepSteppin“
