Drew McIntyre clarifies the status of his on-screen character.
While his on-screen demeanor may be more spiteful (and, at times, straight-up savage), Drew McIntyre asserts that he is not a heel. During a recent interview with Gorilla Position, McIntyre addressed some of the misconceptions of his current work, specifically with the classification of his current character.
According to McIntyre, he is still a “good guy.” After bursts of compassion caused him to lose multiple title matches, though, McIntyre began putting his personal feelings aside. And so far, this tactic has boasted nothing but positive results. Namely, McIntyre has since secured a World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40.
“Do you know how many times I was told today ‘I love your heel work’ just walking around Bakersfield? I was like, ‘I’m not a heel’ … They put [my work] over. I just get offended being called a heel,” McIntyre said. “I’m the only guy that’s been a consistent good guy since like 2019. I’ve never changed. I’m willing to go a little bit further now. I learned my lessons in the first couple of matches with Seth, specifically when I didn’t strike when I should have. I hesitated. Had those emotions that I should have had maybe after the match rather than in the match with sympathy and compassion and not having that killer instinct that I had prior. And now everything’s come together with what I am, and who I am now with that killer instinct.”
Keeping A Cool Head
“Chaos can be going around me like Cody [Rhodes] with The Bloodline stuff, where, there’s Solo [Sikoa] right there, the same person that screwed me at Clash of the Castle. Obviously, I want to get him, but [I’m in] a different mind frame now,” McIntyre said. “Bigger picture. Focus on the Raw roster, the world title, what’s best for it.”
Though McIntyre may want to “drop” Seth Rollins right now, he recognizes the importance of keeping a “cool head” on the Road to WrestleMania. As such, he reiterated that he is focused on filling in the bigger picture with the aid of his renewed killer instinct.
