Ruthie Jay discusses her love for WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle.
NWA star Ruthie Jay looks up to several figures in the professional wrestling business. During a recent conversation with WrestleZone, the “5-Star Athlete” opened up about what specifically drew her to another notable athlete, the Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle.
“That man won a gold medal with a broken freakin’ neck. My neck hurts for five seconds, I’m out. This stuff is not easy. It hurts all the time. It hurts every day, and this man won a whole gold medal with a broken freakin’ neck. That was amazing to me, even as a kid, just because I know things hurt. But in the ring, Kurt Angle is one of the most unbelievable people,” Jay said. “He’s fast, he’s smooth. I would wish to be that fast and smooth one day in my career.”
Ruthie Jay also noted that part of her entrance sequence was influenced by Angle, as well as former WWE RAW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.
“He’s fast, he’s smooth, and he’s just overall amazing. That’s why in the beginning of my intro, Kurt Angle does a spin, I do my spin because of Kurt Angle. It’s crazy, my intro is literally my inspirations come together because of the whole Sasha [five finger hand raise] thing [as well]. I do the ‘five’ for ‘5-Star,’ but Sasha also does that. For my inspiration with Kurt Angle, I do my spin, and he also does his spin when he enters. It’s amazing. I never really thought about my entrance like that, but I do draw inspiration from Kurt Angle in my entrance as well.”
