Jay White’s future is unclear following his loss at NJPW New Beginning in Osaka.
White lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. Shortly after the show, Fightful Select reported that White was expected to leave New Japan Pro-Wrestling as his contract was coming up. White then challenged Hikuleo to a Loser Leaves Japan Match at the New Beginning in Osaka event non February 11, and “Switchblade” came out of it on the losing end.
In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, NJPW talent believe that White’s contract is up at some point between NJPW Battle in the Valley and WWE WrestleMania 39, but additional details are unclear. Sapp noted that WWE sources have confirmed the company’s long-running interest in White, but everything about him possibly coming in is being kept quiet.
In the report, Sapp also wrote that NJPW sources said they’d “love to keep him”, and in addition to WWE’s interest, it was noted that White made positive relationships through his work in AEW and IMPACT Wrestling.
As of this writing, White remains scheduled for a match against Eddie Kingston at NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18.
