Scorpio Sky hopes his second run with the TNT Championship lasts longer than his first one.
Sky won the title on the March 9 episode of AEW Dynamite, but he lost it a few weeks later at AEW Battle of the Belts II. The veteran took the title back when he dethroned Sammy Guevara on the April 27 episode of AEW Dynamite.
During an appearance on Throwing Down with Miesha Tate & Renee Paquette, Sky made it clear that being a champion in the first place is an honor, let alone holding a title three times, in a company where wins and losses matter.
“It’s really an honor,” said Sky. “Just to win it one time is incredible. I know people look at professional wrestling and a lot of things, sometimes people think wins and losses and things like that don’t matter. But in AEW, from the very beginning, they wanted to make a statement that wins and losses do matter. And there haven’t been a lot of people that have held championships, and so to be able to have the honor of being a champion, not only one time not two times, and actually three times as a tag team champion, it’s exactly what I said it is, it’s an honor.”
When asked about his goals as the champion, Sky joked that he hopes he holds the title at least one day longer than his previous reign. He went on to describe how he wants to have the kind of “classic” title matches he used to love watching as a kid. Plus, he’s hoping to tell stories as the champion in order to leave his mark and make people remember him.
“I didn’t get to do too much in my first run,” said Sky. “I lost the title in like 31 days, only had one title defense, unfortunately. But I did regain the championship in the shortest period of time in AEW history, 12 days. So now we got a new start, so the first thing I want to do is hold onto it for at least 32 days and top myself. But no really, I wanna have some classics. I grew up a diehard passionate wrestling fan that dreamt of winning championships and having classic matches.
“So if I can run with this title for six months, year or longer and really get in the ring with everyone and have some memorable championship matches that I used to like watching when I grew up, that was the goal. And telling stories most of all, above everything else. I want to tell stories because that’s what people remember and that’s how you leave your mark.”
