Tasha Steelz Blessed The Knockouts Title With Flava, Wants To Be A Fighting Champion

Tasha Steelz is ready to defend her title and prove her doubters wrong.

Tasha Steelz recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about her Knockouts Championship win at IMPACT Wrestling’s Sacrifice special as well as what’s next for her. Steelz said that she’s on the top of the mountain right now, but she knows she’ll eventually have to deal with Mickie James, the former champion who will be eyeing a rematch with her.

“I have the title which means that I’m at the top of the Knockouts mountain but I’m sure Mickie [James] wants her rematch, so we can’t count her out right now. I did beat the legend, I did beat the Hall of Famer, I did beat Mickie James but I know she wants a rematch,” Steelz said. “I know it’s just eating away at her, I know she wants to get this IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts World Championship back but I already blessed it with flava, so unfortunately she can’t get it back. But she can get her rematch, she can get a shot again but she will fall to La Boricua Badass. I can guarantee you that.”

Steelz has won gold in IMPACT before, as she (and Kiera Hogan) were two-time Knockouts Tag Team Champions, one of which was the inaugural reign of the reactivated title. Asked how she’s looking to elevate the Knockouts Championship in a similar way, Steelz noted that it’s about adding more flava and she’s out to prove the naysayers wrong.

“I just gotta add more flava. I definitely have to prove the naysayers wrong, people think that there’s certain standards of a champion and they don’t think that I’m on there, so I have to prove the reasons why I’m going to be in talks from now until forever,” Steelz explained. “I’m going to be one of the best Knockouts World Champions there’s ever been. So, I’m going to add my flava up a little more, turn it up a little bit and prove the naysayers wrong.”

While a rematch with James is highly likely, one potential match that could be in her future is a date with the “Champ Champ” Deonna Purrazzo. The two know each other well as they both trained with Damian Adams, but Steelz says that match will have to wait as she feels as if there are a lot of other contenders in line first.

“That’s a good thought but we have a group of women that are hungry for this Knockouts World Championship. So, with us going at it right now, I feel like we can save that for later on. For me, right now it’s me proving to be the fighting champion that I am, so I definitely want to get in the ring with some of these new girls, we have Gisele Shaw, we have Lady Frost that can tear it up in the ring, Alisha, Rose [Mary] already had her shot, Havok, Chelsea Green, we just have so many women that want to get a shot at this title,” she explained. “I’m willing to open the door to them and give them this opportunity to try and take it from me but they won’t because I got too much flava, so they won’t take it from me. But, we’ll save Tasha Steelz versus Deonna Purrazzo, championship match for some other time.”

Steelz also spoke about the depth of the IMPACT Knockouts division, which currently has one of its strongest rosters ever. Steelz noted that with her title, the tag titles and Purrazzo’s AAA and ROH titles, the division has plenty to fight for and it leads to everyone stepping things up.

“You have Deonna with her two titles that she’ll defend anytime, anywhere, against anyone. Of course, me being the Knockouts World Champion, I’m able to defend my title against anyone in the Knockouts division that wants to get a shot at the title. We just keep upping our game every week, so it speaks for itself basically,” Steelz stated. “That’s four titles with three women defending their titles every single week on IMPACT TV. So, we up our game every single time and we show and prove it.”
