The day of WWE SummerSlam, a Kickoff match between Apollo Crews and Buddy Murphy was added to the show. Murphy’s most recent appearance came on this past WWE SmackDown. There, after Roman Reigns interrogated him about the forklift incident, Murphy pointed the Big Dog’s hunt for revenge towards Rowan. On the SummerSlam kickoff, Rowan interrupted the match between Murphy and Crews.

Rowan brutally assaulted Murphy and powerbombed him into the ring post. Rowan screamed, “Keep my name out of your mouth!” at Murphy. Daniel Bryan silently watched the attack backstage.
