At WWE Fastlane, in the first defense of his United States Championship, Samoa Joe retained the gold when he made Rey Mysterio pass out in the Coquina Clutch. The fatal four way match also featured Andrade and R-Truth.

Each star got a chance to shine. Andrade flew to the outside, R-Truth channeled his childhood hero, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio showcased his timeless talent. But, at the end of the match, Joe emerged victorious. The conflict between Andrade and Mysterio was left unresolved and the champion now needs a fresh challenger as the road to WrestleMania nears its destination.
