This year, Christmas falls on a Tuesday, which means that we’ll be getting a Christmas special episode of SmackDown Live. This is a good thing, as RAW hasn’t been consistent lately. SmackDown Live has had its ups and downs, but with a solid roster, lesser showtime and more engaging storylines overall, it’s safe to say that the blue brand is heading in a good direction as the year comes to a close.

This means that in the final SmackDown of 2018, we’ll be getting some fun backstage skits, a few Christmas-themed match stipulations and more. Don’t get us wrong, these matches can be very fun and entertaining, giving a light-hearted mood. However, the downside of these episodes is that there’s no real storyline progression.

This time, WWE has the chance to change that and we give you five incredible matches that WWE can have this Christmas on SmackDown Live.

#5.) The Bar vs Gallows & Anderson vs The New Day vs The Usos – SmackDown Tag Team Championship

The Bar has been in a SmackDown tag title feud with The New Day and the Usos lately. It’s been clear that it’s a program that involves the cream of the crop of the tag team division. However, if you add Gallows & Anderson into the mix, things change drastically. The former tag team champions have seemingly been forgotten on the blue brand, which is a shame given that they’re an incredible tag team and have been underutilized for so long.

There’s no better way to bring them back than to put them right back in the tag title picture. There’s no doubt that they belong in the mix with the other three teams and would add a different dynamic to it altogether.

#4.) Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas vs Rey Mysterio

We’ve seen this match before on SmackDown Live. The young upstart Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas took on Rey Mysterio and the legendary Mysterio won the bout. But what they proved is that they have fantastic chemistry and the crowd was in awe, chanting “This is awesome”. Although it’s hard to get time for a match on a 2-hour program, even a 12-minute match between Almas and Mysterio would be incredible.

They could give another tease of what they can do together, and this time around, Almas can get the win, making it 1-1 (on TV, atleast). It can even be the catalyst of an inevitable program between the two where Mysterio passes the torch down to Almas.

#3.) Daniel Bryan vs The Miz

It’s hard to imagine a heel vs heel match, but this is one of the instances where it could actually work. Daniel Bryan has been magnificent as a heel (which has come as a surprise to many, given his overwhelming popularity as a babyface). The Miz, meanwhile, has begun to show some face characteristics, and he would actually be the babyface in the match, even if only from bell-to-bell.

This is, of course, under the assumption that there’s not already a program in place between the two in the future. However, Bryan vs The Miz would certainly make for an incredible Christmas special match.

#2.) Becky Lynch vs Asuka

This is a program and match that WWE fans really haven’t gotten to see yet. They have faced off in live events before but haven’t really crossed paths too much before TLC 2018. However, the story that Becky Lynch has never really beaten Asuka makes for an extremely interesting one.

Becky Lynch has been the hottest superstar post-Summer this year and it’s going to be interesting to see the direction that they go. A match with Asuka can easily be labeled a dream match and given the in-ring skills of both women, there’s no doubt that it would be a main event-caliber match-up on any given day.

#1.) John Cena vs AJ Styles V

It would be fair to argue that now that AJ Styles and John Cena are 2-2 against each other, a fifth match would be best suited for not just a PPV, but a grand PPV like WrestleMania. However, the best possible match that WWE can gift their fans this Christmas is an epic collision between the 16-time World Champion and The Phenomenal One.

Of course, a victory for Styles would be best suited. Either way, it’s always great to see John Cena back and his return alone would make many people’s nights.
