For those who believe that a heel Bayley could be interesting, I agree with you. However, I do not think it is the right move. I am certainly intrigued in what WWE would do with Bayley long term if they did turn her heel for this feud, but I feel that it really has the longevity of a Miz face turn.
A heel turn from Bayley seems extremely unnatural, and I’m not sure WWE would alienate the children at live shows by flipping Bayley’s mean switch. Sure, she can beat up on Sasha, but after that I’m not too sure where she would go. This feud with Bayley as a heel, however would be very refreshing and fun for the fans. To be able to see if Bayley could pull off a heel persona would be a great way to spend the summer in 2018.
I’m sure the crowd would love to see more destructive behavior from Bayley, as I certainly would, but I struggle to think that Bayley can cut a halfway decent heel promo. To be honest, I think her promo and acting work as a face are already garbage, so I do not have high hopes for her to exhibit any intimidating qualities. If she can though, I would love to be proved wrong.
Tweener Bayley vs. Tweener Sasha Banks
A face versus face conflict is typically not very interesting, but since there are already some backstabbing, heelish antics going about, then it may be able to tread water. When you have two people who absolutely hate each other, it can ignite a crowd even if they are both technically faces. To give an absurdly out of proportion example, Cena and Rock at WrestleMania 28 and 29 both had that same distinct quality.
Again though, I’m not too sure where this feud would net out. Would we get a Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn 2016 angle where they just fight each other perpetually until the end of time, or do we get the return and renewal of a damaged friendship? If two faces are constantly in flux though, it will definitely be hard to put together those face vs. heel womens division six-women tag team matches that WWE loves so much.
Conclusion
Bayley could have success as a heel, but I believe the best option for WWE would be to just give Bayley’s face character some edge and turn Sasha Banks fully heel. Both stars have not been on top of the division for a good while, and this character alteration for both would only yield great results in the future if booked correctly.
