So… What Happened To All Those Tag Teams Trying To Qualify For Money In The Bank?

There had been some rumor and speculation that WWE was planning on doing some sort of tag team specific version of the Money in the Bank ladder match, but no third briefcase has ever been brought into the mix, nor the match hinted at in any solid way.

Plus, if that were the case, why would The New Day and The Bar be fighting for a singles spot? They would both assuredly be featured members of the team briefcase shot, wouldn’t they?

While I tend to think it would be superfluous, I also have to admit that at least part of me is curious about how a tag team Money in the Bank would work—both in terms of the way the match itself would be booked and how the cash-in would play out.

With eight men and women in the other ladder matches, but no set standard for this type of gimmick, would WWE limit it to four teams of two men (two from Raw, two from SmackDown) or would it be eight teams?

Which of those tag teams would participate? I’d assume that’s not only where we would have seen The Bar and The New Day, but potentially also Rusev Day instead of Rusev being in the singles division match, as well as even Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, while a team like Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre could have been possible picks to win.

But how would the cash-in have to happen? Could one person represent their team on a whim? Would both have to agree to cash in the briefcase at the same time or render it invalid? What if only half of the champions were on that episode? Would it be a handicap match?

Those are theoretical questions we don’t need answers for, as this match doesn’t seem to be in the cards, but we don’t know for sure if that’s something that was legitimately discussed at all, or just in the realm of misinformed speculation.

In any case, more so than worrying about the tag team division being represented in a ladder match, WWE has a more pressing matter to attend to: fixing those ugly new briefcases. Yeesh.
