Match #8 – Chris Brookes vs. Kassius Ohno
As you can imagine, Ohno gets a fantastic reaction – although Brookes is still a popular guy in these parts, and was considered to be one of the favourites to win the whole thing. There’s a big match feel for this one, and they’ve built it up well as the crowd are still completely into the action even after seeing seven high-quality matches already. Brookes gets the better of the early exchanges and starts getting to work on Kassius’ arm. It’s clear to see there’s a slower pace to this one, but it feels like they’re going to get more time than the other matches.
Kassius is starting to find his rhythm, with a big-time leg drop from the top rope getting a near two-fall. It’s hard to call which way this one is going to go, as neither guy seems to be having a sustained period of control. Kassius’ power is keeping him in the game, with Brookes relying on his pace and kicks. Chris reverses Ohno as the lights briefly go out, nailing a brainbuster – but it only gets a two-count. It feels like calling this a ‘hard-hitting’ match would be a dramatic understatement, as finally, with both guys out on their feet, Ohno nails Brookes with a vicious elbow off the ropes to secure the win.

Post-match, Ohno talks about how we’re coming up to the twenty year anniversary of his career beginning. Kassius says this isn’t some traditional ‘shake hands’ at the end of the match moment, before putting over Brookes who is sat in the front row after a fan gives up his seat for him.
That’s all she wrote for tonight, folks. An incredible afternoon of wrestling from Progress, as they continue to change the game in British wrestling.
