On the polarizing response he gets from wrestling fans in and outside the Impact Zone:
JM: I like it. I like the negative reaction I get from the fans in the Impact Zone. They are such a hard fan base to get any emotion out of since they see me multiple times in a night. For them to loathe me the way they do, it’s great. But during the day when I help them with their VIP experiences and making sure the right people are where they are supposed to be we are all cool but when the Josh Mathews character comes out they know that they don’t like him, and he doesn’t like them which is all good as part of the show experience. I think they know how hard I work for them and behind the scenes to make sure they enjoy everything that is happening at TV and everything else. We are preparing for Redemption which will be airing on pay per view on April 22nd right now. We have VIP packages available now. We are trying to do tons of over fun, entertaining things like mini golf, bowling, and other] interactive things that Ross Forman, who is our PR rep, and I come up with. We bounce ideas back and forth all the time. We get excited coming up with these ideas and seeing people have fun with them.
On feuding with Jeremy Borash and teaming with Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner at Slammiversary XV:
JM: Being back in the ring was the fun and the easiest part. I motivated me quite honestly. I lost some weight, I had a goal. That part was fun. Getting there during the day and having them come up to me and say we think we are going to use the thumbtacks, how do you feel? It made me stop and say yeah, of course, we have to do that. This was one of the most fun times I have had in my career. Scott (Steiner) was great and is a true pro. JB was a lot of fun to work with. We all embraced it and had a lot of fun with it.
On being Matt Sydal’s one true spirit guide and how he reached enlightenment:
JM: I feel like I have always been an enlightened person which made be able to help Matt reach further enlightenment. Matt’s a pretty out their dude in the conversations we have had. I’ve always enjoyed him I’ve known him a long time. This is just the onion layer being peeled back each week. I think Matt and I are a good fit. Honestly, at this point in my career, I am much more comfortable being the play-by-play announcer and helping our talent evolve and connect with the fans on a deeper level. This part is fun too.
On spreading his enlightened philosophies beyond just Matt Sydal:
JM: I would like to lead the fan down the path of enlightenment. That would be an interesting way to go. Especially the ones who site right there in the pits. They don’t seem to understand what I am trying to do and how much I am trying to help them on television. Maybe I will do a seminar for our VIP fans on how to be enlightened and how to center your chi with me. We would probably sell out pretty quickly.
