7/29 WWE NXT Results: Tag Team Titles on the Line, Kevin Owens in Action

–From last week: William Regal wants to know what happened (he got decked by KO in the main event segment). Owens walks up and says he didn’t mean to attack him, he was in fight-or-flight mode, and apologizes for his actions. Regal says he can’t wait for KO to get beat down at NXT Takeover.

KEVIN OWENS vs. MARTIN STONE

Martin looks like Bobby Roode had a baby with one of the Basham Brothers. He gets in a few punches but Owens completely dominates him. Cannonball in the corner, senton splash off the top rope, wins it with the pop-up powerbomb.

–Owens powerbombs Stone into the ring apron after the match, then does the Finn Balor pose on the top turnbuckle. Byron calls him “NXT’s resident sociopath.” Good line.

–Video package for Rhyno. You know, because that’s a thing we definitely need in 2015.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match

THE VAUDEVILLIANS vs. WESLEY BLAKE & BUDDY MURPHY

Blake gets really cocky at the start of the match and ends up in an armbar. He escapes then runs into a dropkick and they trade some nice pinning combinations. English tags in and trades momentum on a wrist hold a few times with Blake – old school. In comes Murphy off the tag, but Aiden takes them both down with a handicap hip toss. Staredown between both teams as we take a brief commercial break. The heels do heel things after the break, and end up working over English for several minutes. Lots of quick tags. “Oh my Gotch” chants – I laughed. Gotch makes the hot tag and cleans house, tossing Blake from the ring and setting up for the Whirling Dervish. Alexa Bliss grabs English’s foot from the floor and Murphy rolls him up with a handful of trunks for the win, to retain the tag titles.

–The Vaudevillians go on the attack after the match. They clear Blake from the ring and hit Murphy with the Whirling Dervish. Alexa Bliss tries to get in their face, and they start circling around her like sharks. Loud “chivalry” chants break out, and the two end up holding open the ropes for her to walk through like gentlemen. Instead, she mocks them and calls them “pathetic”, slapping both of them in the face and leaving.

On a personal note, I’d just like to say a quick “thanks” to everyone who has shown up to these Wednesday night NXT sessions. This will be my last live coverage of any kind with Wrestlezone, and I wrap up my time with you wonderful people this Friday morning. Sincerely, thank you for all the kind (and not so kind) words of support and inspiration over the last 5-ish years. That anyone ever cared about anything I’ve ever said about wrestling is deeply meaningful to me. I’ll be dropping one final editorial on Friday afternoon! Peace out, WZ.
