Backstage: Stephanie McMahon & Triple H

Backstage we see, but don’t hear, Stephanie McMahon talking to Triple H while he’s in his referee shirt. Triple H walks away while Stephanie stands and looks a bit concerned.

WWE Title: CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena (c)

Out first comes the WWE C.O.O. in a referee shirt. Triple H enters the ring, doesn’t do the water spit pose (even though he came to the ring with a bottle of water). He simply stands in the ring and we hear CM Punk’s music. Out comes our first WWE Champion, CM Punk. He sits Indian style in the middle of the ring and waits for his opponent. After a slight delay, John Cena’s music hits. Our second WWE Champion, Cena, makes his way to the ring. Crowd is clearly pro-Punk and anti-Cena, although not as emphatically as was the case in Chicago at Money In The Bank. Justin Roberts does the big drawn-out, pre-match introductions. Crowd somewhat split for Punk during his. Crowd clearly anti-Cena for his. Triple H checks each guy before the match. A loud “CM Punk” chant breaks out before the bell sounds. The bell finally does sound and our WWE unified title match begins. Punk and Cena lock up and Punk muscles Cena into the corner. They seperate. Crowd is chanting loudly during the early goings. Hot atmosphere. Side-headlock by Punk on Cena. Cena down to one knee. Cena pushes Punk into the ropes. Punk shoulder-blocks Cena down. They lock up again and Cena takes Punk down by his arm. They seperate again. Both guys are cautious in the early moments of the match. Defeaning “CM Punk” / “Let’s Go Cena” dueling chants break out, to which both guys stop and acknowledge in the ring. Cena shoulder blocks Punk down and we’re back into the action. Cena is taking Punk down a few times and applying chinlocks to him, showing the first signs of anyone being in control of the offense. Just as I say that, Punk hits a flying kick onto Cena for a nearfall. Punk has Cena in a chinlock now. Cena hits a gut-wrench slam on Punk out of nowhere. And another chinlock. That’s about enough of these chinlocks, rear-headlocks, whatever you wanna call them. Punk works to his feet but Cena suplexes him down and slaps the choke back on. “You can’t wrestle” chant breaks out towards Cena. Punk finally gets some offense going, as he lands an assortment of kicks that floors the co-champion. Punk keeping Cena on the mat for his attack thus far. Punk with some kind of leg-scissors on Cena’s body now. Cena nearly applies the STF to Punk, but Punk avoids it. Punk tries suplexing Cena back in the ring. Cena tries suplexing Punk to the floor. In the end, Punk throats-Cena across the top rope. Punk hits a flying kick to follow up and knocks Cena to the floor outside the ring. The crowd chants pick back up as Cena crawls around on the floor. Cena gets back in the ring and Punk kicks the crap out of him to the body while he crawls around. Punk drops an elbow on Cena and pins him, Cena kicks out at two. Cena muscles his way to his feet while locked in a submission by Punk. Cena muscles Punk over and side-slams him to break the lock. Both guys are down now as Triple H looks on in his spiffy referee shirt. “You can’t wrestle” chants part duex break out. Cena shoulder-blocks Punk down. He tries to do so again but Punk catches him coming in with a flying knee to the face. Cena is firing up now and throwing Punk around the ring. Punk slows him down with a knee but Cena reverses moments later for a big slam. Punk motioning for the Five Knuckle Shuffle as the crowd showers him with boo’s. Punk blocks it but Cena nearly catches him in the STF. Punk reverses that into a weird submission hold on the ground. Somewhat of a gogoplata, if you’re familiar with mixed-martial arts. Cena ends up reversing it into a STF. Punk works his way out of the hold and applies another submission on him. Somewhat of a keylock arm submission mixed with a gator choke. Triple H checks on Cena, including the picking his arm up spot and the counting his shoulders to the mat spot. Cena switches the hold back to the STF. Punk screaming as he crawls to the ropes. He makes it there, laying his foot across the ropes. Triple H forces Cena to break the hold. Both guys sell the damage from the submission holds they were just stuck in. Punk dumps Cena over the top and onto the floor. Punk hits a big dive through the middle rope onto the floor on Cena. Both guys are down on the outside now as a loud “CM Punk” chant breaks out inside L.A.’s Staples Center. Triple H is counting both guys out in the ring as replays are shown. Triple H gets to the count of nine and both guys clearly aren’t going to make it back in the ring in time. HHH goes to the floor and rolls Cena back in himself. Then he rolls Punk back in himself. Then he rolls back in the ring and signals with his hands that this match is going to continue anyways. Both guys finally make it back to their feet and exchange punches. “Boo” everytime Cena lands one. “Yay” everytime Punk does. Cena nearly gets Punk with the Attitude Adjustment but Punk rolls out. Cena catches Punk with a beautiful dropkick. He follows that up with the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena hoists Punk up for the Attitude Adjustment, but again Punk escapes. A series of pin attempts by both guys, two count on each of them. It concludes with Punk knocking Cena flat on his ass with a roundhouse kick. We get a replay of Cena’s nice dropkick from a few moments earlier. Punk hoists Cena up for the GTS but Cena avoids it. Cena hits a big powerslam on Punk for a nearfall. Cena climbs to the top rope but Punk catches him up there with a running knee to the face. Now Punk is on the ropes. He comes off the middle rope with a flying bulldog. Punk tries a pin on Cena but Cena manages to kick out at two. Loud dueling Punk-Cena chants break out yet again. The crowd has really been hot for this match the entire time. Punk slingshots himself into the ring but Cena catches him coming in with the STF. Cena is yelling at Punk to tap. Punk is screaming. Triple H is asking him if he quits. He continuously says no. Punk finally makes it to the ropes to break the hold. Cena picks Punk up for the Attitude Adjustment. Punk reverses it to a GTS attempt. Cena reverses that back into the Attitude Adjustment. He immediately hits it and immediately covers him. Punk still kicks out at two. Close-up shot of Cena’s face and we see Cena looking extremely discouraged. Cena arguing with HHH now about the count. Cena goes up to the top rope. He waits for Punk to get up. Cena tries the flying leg drop but Punk moved in time. Punk picks Cena up and hits the GTS. He immediately covers Cena but Cena also kicks out at two. Now Punk looks discouraged. He also looks kind of pissed as he stares at HHH. He too seems to feel it was a three count. Dueling Cena-Punk chants start up again in the audience. Punk now going to the top rope. Punk hits a big elbow drop off the top onto Cena. He immediately covers him, but again only gets two. Again, Punk looks at HHH in disbelief about the count. The crowd chants “Randy Savage” incredibly loud due to Punk’s flying elbow drop off the top. Nice. Commentary doesn’t acknowledge the chants. Not so nice. Action resumes in the ring now as both guys exchange punches and kicks. Punk hits a flying knee on Punk and immediately follows it up with a GTS. Punk pins him immediately and gets the three, although Cena’s foot was on the rope as Triple H counted.
