The Longest Yard opened to $15.75 million on Friday, topping Star Wars Episode III ($15.47 million) and Madagascar ($14.03 million).
The movie, which stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and a number of football players and wrestlers, averaged $4,334 per theatre on Friday. Because the heavyweight competition is so close, however, it is not guaranteed a win for the Memorial Day weekend.
