Major Update On Chris Jericho WWE Return and AEW Contract Expiration

New reports suggest Chris Jericho‘s time with AEW may be coming to an end soon. A return to WWE could happen sooner than expected.

Dave Meltzer addressed Chris Jericho’s situation in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He noted that while nothing is officially confirmed, many within the industry expect Jericho to return to WWE as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble.

He said, “Most in wrestling think he’s going to WWE as a surprise for the Rumble. It’s nothing confirmed but it’s also something that I don’t imagine will be confirmed because if he is going, I think Paul Levesque will keep the circle very small who is told.” [H/T: f4wonline]

According to Alex McCarthy of Wrestling Intel, Chris Jericho’s AEW contract is set to expire at midnight on December 31. The report also notes that WWE has internally discussed the idea of Jericho returning on the WWE RAW Netflix anniversary episode on January 5. This is rather than waiting until the Royal Rumble on January 31.

Adding to the speculation, Jon Alba of Sports Illustrated reported that sources believe he could show up on WWE TV as early as the January 5 episode of RAW. While rumors continue to swirl, Jericho himself added fuel to the fire during AEW World’s End weekend.

Chris Jericho recently addressed a potential WWE return

Chris Jericho hosted a Christmas Dinner With The Winnipeggers livestream on his YouTube channel. During the stream, a fan mentioned watching Jericho’s iconic 1999 WWE debut and asked if he might return to the company.

His response was brief but telling, “You never know.” Although Jericho has been absent from AEW television, he remains very much on fans’ minds. With his contract reportedly expiring at the end of the year, the next few weeks could be crucial in determining Jericho’s future.
