Reason For Drew McIntyre Getting ‘Suspended’ By WWE — Report

Drew McIntyre‘s suspension was the biggest highlight to come out of WWE SmackDown last week, and a new report suggests there may be more to it than meets the eye.

For those unaware, the Scottish Warrior interfered in the Cody Rhodes vs. Aleister Black match last Friday on the blue brand. McIntyre took out referee Dan Engler with a Claymore, causing the match to end in a no contest.

A brawl ensued between McIntyre and Rhodes inside the ring, while Damian Priest clashed with Black on the outside. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis arrived and handed McIntyre a suspension. The former World Heavyweight Champion unsuccessfully tried to appeal the decision before being escorted out of the building.

Dave Meltzer on Drew McIntyre’s suspension

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio (via f4wonline.com), Dave Meltzer reported that the creative team came up with the suspension angle to cover McIntyre’s filming schedule for an upcoming movie.

“He’s doing a movie,” Meltzer said.

While Meltzer attributed the storyline development to McIntyre’s filming commitments, he didn’t clarify whether it involved the upcoming “Highlander” movie or another project Drew may have landed. McIntyre’s casting as Angus MacLeod, the brother of Henry Cavill’s protagonist Connor MacLeod, was announced in September.

Update: McIntyre’s agent, Nick LoPiccolo, has refuted Meltzer’s claim and said that McIntyre isn’t scheduled to start filming Highlander until April 2026. He also said that he “worked the schedule out so it won’t affect WWE creative.”

It’s also worth noting that Dave Bautista, who plays The Kurgan in the Highlander reboot, told Collider that filming begins on November 28.

Fans will have to wait and see whether Drew McIntyre returns to WWE television in time for Survivor Series: WarGames. Catch up on everything that went down on the November 7 episode of SmackDown here.
