Gail Kim says someone has been lying about her contacting AEW for a job opportunity.
Kim has been under fire recently due to her comments about deathmatch wrestling and Joshi wrestler Riho. That has now spiraled into Kenny Omega taking a perceived shot at her, saying another legend was “doing the splits on it for the yearly TKO gift basket.”
The war of words between Kim and her critics has gone on for days. Now, she’s speaking out against a claim that she approached AEW for work after she was released by TNA.
A journalist named BJ Bethel claimed that Kim reached out to multiple people at AEW for an opportunity in the company. He alleged that the contact was made “longer than a couple weeks ago,” adding that Gail was the one who reached out, not AEW.
However, Gail Kim set the record straight and said that AEW producer Sonjay Dutt, who she worked with in TNA, reached out to her. Kim said Dutt asked about her interest in wrestling again, but she clarified that she remains retired.
“The real news about what happened with AEW since people will lie,” Gail Kim wrote on Twitter/X. “I was saving it for interviews but oh well it’s now. I got one text from AEW when I was terminated from TNA. It was from Sonjay and inquiring more about whether I wanted to wrestle. I’m retired. End of story.”
Despite Kim saying the initial story was a lie, Bethel says he is sticking by his claim.
