Tony Khan Comments On Britt Baker’s AEW Status, Reports She’s Trying To Leave

Tony Khan is just trying to balance the minutes and the rotation.

Khan took part in a media call ahead of AEW All In: Texas. During the call, Rick Ucchino of The Takedown on SI asked for a comment about Britt Baker‘s status in AEW. The former AEW Women’s Champion has not been on AEW television since November 2024, and she is still reportedly under contract with AEW for at least another year.

According to a recent report from Bodyslam.net (via Patreon), Baker was “actively seeking to part ways with AEW.” It was also noted that AEW isn’t looking to release her anytime soon. However, a conflicting report from Fightful (via Fightful Select) disputed that information. According to Fightful, sources said any talk of Baker wanting out of AEW is “news to them.” In addition, the outlet noted that every source “vehemently denied” that Baker was actively trying to leave AEW.

Tony Khan seemingly confirmed the latter report during the media call, explaining that he’s never discussed Baker leaving AEW.

“I’ve never had a conversation about Britt departing AEW,” Khan said. “I like Britt a lot, and I think one thing we’ve done really well is build a tight, focused show around a really great roster. It’s been really consistent and I think we’ve had a very, very good year of pay-per-view and TV. Absolutely, there are some people who have not been featured. We have a great group of wrestlers who have not necessarily been on the show a lot or even in some cases, at all in 2025, that are very talented that we would like to work back in when the opportunity presents itself.”

Tony Khan plays coach to the AEW roster

Khan compared the situation to a sports team, where you can only use a set number of people each play. He said pro wrestling is unique in that regard, but there are still only so many spots on each show. Britt Baker is included, and hopes to use her again in the right situation.

“I think we’ve done a great job of using a lot of the roster this year; we haven’t used everybody. There are some really talented people on our bench that we can call in that can be a great part of the show. I absolutely think that applies to a number of women and men that are not necessarily being featured right now, but we could bring in that could be a great focus on the show as those spots open up and the timing is right.”

Khan said he takes pride in not forcing too much into each AEW show this year. Rather, AEW benefits from well-paced and focused shows each week, and he wants to keep that going.

“I think Britt’s a great example of somebody who’s really, really talented and we could utilize in AEW in the right situation and the right time,” he added. “Just like in pro sports, when you have some really talented people who aren’t starting every game at that point, it doesn’t mean they won’t be starting in the future.”

Britt Baker has not publicly commented on her AEW status. However, she did spark further speculation on her whereabouts due to a cryptic social media post.
