The Godfather is a changed man and he knows two big reasons for his new personality.
WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather was a recent guest on The Universal Wrestling Podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. During the interview, Godfather said two things had changed his life for the better: marijuana and his wife.
“Two things changed my life for the better marijuana and my wife,” The Godfather said. “And those things took me from being a really bad person to being a nice person, and I’ll just let it go at that. So I just chill, and it’s just me, man, and at this point, I’m basically retired, and I’m just having fun. But it was great. Ric Flair gave me some Ric Flair drip. That night me, my wife, Taker, Flair, and Jerry Lawler. Jerry doesn’t drink, but we were just down there having some shots of Jack and telling stories. It was a great time.”
The Godfather went on to tell a story about a kid at the bar the weekend of RAW is XXX who approached them and had no clue who The Undertaker was.
“Yeah, but not all of us were there, just like me, Taker and a few of us were there because they didn’t want to stay where everybody was staying because when you’re around Taker, it can get crazy,” The Godfather admitted. “Like rock and roll star fans. Not crazy, but sometimes he can’t just go down and have a drink at the bar without people just wanting to talk to him and take pictures with him, which is cool, right.
“That night, I think there was one; I swear to God this happened. I swear, because there wasn’t no fans there, really. It was just some of us and a few guys from the office, and we’re down there drinking, and this kid comes up, and he goes to Taker, and I swear this is true. He goes, ‘And which wrestler are you?’ And I swear Taker looks at this kid and goes, ‘I’m the Godfather.’ [laughs] It was a great time.”
At RAW is XXX, The Godfather played the role of the bouncer at Ron Simmon’s poker tournament. It was a role designed for him to stand still because he currently can’t take a step without the assistance of crutches.
“That thing that they did is they had to come up with something because if I’m not on the crutches, I can’t take a step now, so they tried to do something where I didn’t have to move,” The Godfather revealed. “And so that’s what they came up with. Basically, all they want is that initial when the camera sees you and the people go off, or if it goes to Ron, they could get that shot there and just wait for that pop. That’s all you’re there for.
“Of course, for the people, but it helps their TV so they just do something like that. But I had fun doing it, but none of that was scripted. They just said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna have you here, and you say this, you have Ron, and knock on the door and do this,’ and we practiced it a couple of times and did it. But none of that was scripted none of it. It’s just us being us.”
