Dominik Mysterio: I Don’t Think My Heel Turn Was Part Of The Original Plan

Dominik Mysterio says his heel turn wasn’t part of the plan when he arrived in WWE.

Rey Mysterio’s son appeared on WWE TV when he was a kid, and he later became a regular presence during his father’s feud with Seth Rollins in 2020. Dominik made his in-ring debut at SummerSlam 2020, where he lost to Rollins in a Street Fight. The young star then formed a tag team with his father, and the duo won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania Backlash 2021. Dominik eventually turned on Rey at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022 and joined the Judgment Day. Since then. he has become one of the most prominent heels on the red brand.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio ahead of WWE Royal Rumble, Dominik was asked whether he ever imagined he’d be in this spot. He noted that he didn’t think his WWE career would play out this way, as being a heel wasn’t part of what they envisioned when he started out.

“No, I didn’t think any of this was gonna play out the way it did,” Dominik said. “It kind of all just happened so fast for me. The process for me starting to wrestle and train and debut was all completely different in our eyes and what we had envisioned. So me being a heel I don’t think was ever in the plan. My dad’s always been a big babyface, and he’s never been the bad guy. So I think seeing a different side of a Mysterio is what for people intrigued people.”

Dominik also made it clear that he appreciates all the opportunities that he has as a member of the WWE roster.
