Report: Rey Mysterio Injury Prevented Royal Rumble Appearance

A new report suggests that WWE had to shift their plans with Rey Mysterio at the Royal Rumble due to a legit injury he suffered on SmackDown.

The Wrestling Observer reports that Rey Mysterio suffered a legit injury on SmackDown during his match with Karrion Kross that prevented him from being able to participate in the Royal Rumble match. Dave Meltzer said “Rey Mysterio was injured in Laredo at the SmackDown tapings in a match with Karrion Kross. He was going to be in the Rumble, but that spot was changed and then what happened was they did a spot where he’s supposed to come out, he doesn’t come out, and then Dominik comes out. I think they were actually supposed to do some teases with them in the Rumble to set up the WrestleMania match but, obviously, they couldn’t do it because Rey’s injured.”

The idea behind Dominik Mysterio coming out directly after Rey was supposed to give the impression that Dominik potentially attacked Rey backstage. It is unknown how serious Rey’s injury is but it was reportedly bad enough that keeping him out of The Rumble was the best decision. Rey did beat Karrion Kross in their match on SmackDown this past Friday.

Wrestlezone will provide additional updates as they come in.
