Road Dogg Recalls ‘Badass’ Story Involving Low Ki In Mexico City

“Road Dogg” Brian James remembers a tale with a former stablemate.

The early days of IMPACT Wrestling featured a large heel stable yearning to take control of the company. In late 2002, Vince Russo began leading the Sports Entertainment Xtreme faction in the company, then known as NWA: Total Nonstop Action. There, the likes of Brian James, Christopher Daniels, and Low Ki joined in the group’s vie for power. Following the group’s disbanding in mid-2003, James recently recalled a story about a fellow former S.E.X. member.

“I do have an interesting Low Ki story,” James said on his Oh You Didn’t Know? podcast. “When I showed up to — we were going to have a six man [tag] in Mexico City, and it was me and Konnan and [R-]Truth, I want to say. It was against Low Ki, and I forget who the other people were because it really didn’t matter.”

“But when we got there, we all pulled up….and we get out of the van and there’s Low Ki with a towel around his neck and a hoodie on, and he’s running laps around the parking lot of the underground parking facility. I stopped him and waved him down and said, ‘whoa, whoa.’ He had to take his headphones out, and he’s looking at me. I was like, ‘Bro, what are you doing? We got a six-man tag, and you’re not going to need any of this out there,’ you know what I mean? He goes, ‘Maybe you’re not going to need any of this out there, but I might.'”

“He put his stuff back in and ran. I thought, ‘That was badass and cool’ and it scared me, and yet I was angry. It was a cool line. I walked away, like, ‘Okay, well, right then.’ And in the match, he did put me in a [submission] hold that I could not have gotten out of if I had some key ring. I couldn’t have got out of this lock. Thank God he let me go. He didn’t put me in it and hurt me in it. He just put me in it and held me in it. You know what I mean? There’s a difference. Like, I couldn’t have got out if I’d have wanted to, but I respect that. The dude’s got mat skills, you know what I mean? He’s always, always a good dude.”

Though “Road Dogg” never specified the result of the match, it did also feature one of the many outings of the 3 Live Kru — himself, Ron Killings (R-Truth), and Konnan.
