Seth Rollins wants to put smiles on faces, but he didn’t exactly channel the Clown Prince of Crime to get there.
During an appearance on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Seth Rollins spoke about his current character’s versatility and how he could be funny and menacing. Rollins said that fans incorrectly assumed he tried to use the Joker as inspiration, but he did share how he led people on an emotional journey when the story needed to hit certain beats.
“No, I guess not, now that I think about it. I just always felt like the character was so versatile, like I could always do either. It was an easy switch to snap. It was like, people have compared the character to The Joker characters, which, I never used that as inspiration. I never thought about it that way. I was just always trying to play the story the way I thought my character would and use whatever was happening as ammunition for my emotional kind of outbursts.
“Sometimes, so when I was in a great mood, I would let everybody know, I’m in a great mood, and that’s where you get to laugh. But then when I was angry, it would go the opposite direction, where anything could happen. So that unpredictability I just thought that worked so well. It was never my intent and not, I never really thought of it as a risk. I just thought it would be something different and something that could work with anybody.”
During the WWE Clash at the Castle press conference, Seth Rollins spoke more about his humorous side and said he can be funny, but fans shouldn’t mistake it to mean he’s not passionate about the business.
“If we’re trying to rag on me not taking the industry serious, because it’s kind of my life,” Rollins said. “I’ve dedicated my entire life to it, and I have a lot fun with it, but at the end of the day, it is my passion. I dedicate, literally, every single waking second of eating, sleeping, and not raising my kid to this industry. So, just because I look good doesn’t mean you got to be jealous, my friend.”
