AEW Dynamite Results (7/20/22): Fyter Fest Week 2

FTW Championship: Ricky Starks (c) (with Powerhouse Hobbs) vs. Cole Karter

The two men feel each other out early on. Karter gains the upper hand with a diving crossbody, sending Starks to the outside. Starks hits a stun gun and stomps on the challenger. “The Stroke Daddy” hits a diving elbow and slams Karter. He grounds the challenger with a running elbow. Starks walks on the ropes and drops Karter. He poses to the crowd and continues to control the match. Karter rallies with a flurry of offense. He hits a modified TKO, but Starks dodges a 450 splash and hits a Spear for the win.

Winner and still FTW Champion: Ricky Starks

After the match, Starks gets a microphone and says he has more in the tank. He say it’s time to keep it going. He asks for another challenge, and Danhausen answers the call. Starks says he didn’t mean the time was right now. He says he’ll defend the title against Danhausen next week.

Backstage, Athena, Willow Nightingale, and Kris Statlander discuss the change to their match. Athena says it’s a chance to reassess their goals, as the TBS Title would look great around her waist. Statlander doesn’t seem thrilled, but she joins in the trio’s huddle.

In-Ring Segment: FTR

The reigning AAA and ROH Tag Team Champions discuss their upcoming match with The Briscoes. Cash Wheeler thanks the fans for their support. He looks back on the year FTR has had and reflects on their first match with The Briscoes. He credits The Briscoes’ contributions to the business and says they respect the duo, but he promises that the challengers will have to take the titles from their cold, dead hands. Dax Harwood talks about a five-year-old girl who had a hole in her heart. He says the little girl recovered because she fought her butt off, and that little girl is his daughter. He says that just as she fought hard, he’ll have to fight on Saturday. He says he’ll fight like an eight-year-old girl so FTR will beat The Briscoes.

Backstage, Jay Lethal, standing by with Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt, discusses his match against Samoa Joe at ROH Death Before Dishonor. Christopher Daniels interrupts and challenges Lethal to a match on AEW Rampage. Lethal accepts the challenge.

Jade Cargill and Kiera Hogan (with Stokely Hathaway) vs. Athena and Willow Nightingale

Before the match, Hathaway says he got Statlander banned from ringside, and Cargill vows to show that she is “that b—-.” Jermaine Dupri walks to the ring with the group. The bell rings, and Athena takes Hogan down with an arm drag. Hogan briefly gains the upper hand and eats a haymaker shot to the face. Nightingale tags in and double-teams Hogan with Athena. Cargill kicks Athena from behind. Nightingale dives onto Cargill and Hogan. Athena follows suit with a dive of her own. Hogan takes control, and Cargill tags in. She overpowers Athena. Cargill gets a two count with a slam. Cargill and Hogan isolate Athena and keep her grounded.

Nightingale makes the hot tag. She drops Hogan with a spinebuster. Cargill enters the ring and sends Willow to the outside. Athena takes the fight to Cargill and takes a boot to the face. Cargill slams her, but Athena takes her down with double knees. Athena powerbombs Hogan on the apron. Hathaway distracts her, and Cargill shoves her into the steel steps. Willow rolls Cargill up for a two count. Cargill pins Willow with Jaded for the win.

Winners: Jade Cargill and Willow Nightingale

ThunderStorm are standing backstage. Tony Schiavone announces that Rosa will defend the title against Miyu Yamashita next week. Rosa says the challenger is the best from Japan, but she vows to win. Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter interrupt and say they’ll be in tag team action on Rampage.

Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match: Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Kingston

Before the match, the Jericho Appreciation Society gets locked in a shark cage. Kingston charges to the ring and takes a microphone wrapped in barbed wire. He gouges Jericho with it and busts him open. Jericho hits Jericho with a ring bell that’s wrapped in barbed wire. Kingston whips Jericho into the barbed wire ropes. He grinds Jericho’s face on the barbed wire and hits him with a barbed wire chair. Jericho hits a super hurricanrana onto a barbed wire board. Jericho takes control and locks in the Walls while Kingston is on top of a barbed wire board. Kingston sends Jericho back-first into the barbed wire ropes. The two men trade blows. Kingston gouges Jericho’s eyes and sends him into the ropes again. He crotches Jericho on the ropes. Kingston slams Jericho through a barbed wire board.

Tay Conti comes to the ring, and Ruby Soho brawls with her. Anna Jay comes down and swerves everyone by turning on Soho. She lowers the shark cage, and Tay Conti unlocks the cage to free the JAS. Garia and 2point0 attack Kingston. Ortiz, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and Jon Moxley come down to even the odds as the two sides brawl. Kingston slams Jericho through a barbed wire board. Jericho hits a Codebreaker, and the barbed wire chair falls onto his face. Jericho hits Kingston with a barbed wire chair. Kingston counters a Lionsault and hits the spinning back fist for a near fall. Kingston locks in the Stretch Plum, aidded by barbed wire, but Sammy Guevara breaks it up. He attacks Kingston and sends him to Jericho who blasts the fan-favorite with the Judas Effect for the win.

Winner: Chris Jericho

Jericho moves to attack Kingston, but “The Mad King” fires up and throws Jericho onto a bed of barbed wire.
