#5.) “The Lunatic Fringe” isn’t just a gimmick
You’ll hear WWE commentators constantly refer to Ambrose as The Lunatic Fringe and tell you how “unhinged” he is. However, the best gimmicks are based on reality and as The Rock has stated before, the best characters are when superstars are simply able to be themselves.
The Lunatic Fringe refers to a part of Ambrose’s life. He grew up in the mean hoods of Cincinnati, Ohio and had a rough upbringing. He used the authenticity of his real life to add an edge to his character and it worked. Many have compared him to be a mix between ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper.
