Not just is this the most iconic match of Andre The Giant’s career, but it’s one of the most iconic matches in wrestling history period. When you go back and look at some of wrestling’s greatest moments, the list simply cannot be completed without the bodyslam heard around the world.
The match drew over an estimated 80,000+ people(inflated numbers was 93,000) to the Pontiac Silverdome. While the match wasn’t a display of technical masterclass, it was the culmination of a storyline that saw two larger than life characters go at it on the Grandest Stage Of Them All. While WrestleMania did have two successful years prior, this match felt like the first true WrestleMania moment.
