After Andre had pitched the challenge months earlier, Harley Race accepted a match against him at the Summit In Houston 1979. The match saw Harley Race defend the prestigious NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Andre The Giant.
The match was the actual prime of Andre The Giant. A smart worker, he took part in this incredible 2-out-of-3 falls match against the legendary Harley Race. Both played their role to perfection, with Race’s only fall coming via count out. This also had the bodyslam not heard around the world, as Race had bodyslammed Andre outside the ring, years before Hogan did.
With Andre getting one fall clean, Race knew that the only way to retain the title was to count Andre out. Ultimately, after a classic, technical bout between the two, Race prevented Andre from getting back in the ring, resulting in both of them getting counted out and subsequently a draw. This match is a true hidden gem in wrestling.
