Unforgiven 2001 was just 12 days removed from the tragic 9/11 incident. It was a vulnerable time for Americans and their nationality and they required a much-needed boost. WWE did this to the best of their abilities. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was a heel WWF Champion as part of The Alliance.
It was the ultimate feel-good moment when Kurt Angle tapped out Austin clean to become a 2-time WWF Champion. He was hosted up triumphantly by team WWF and it was an incredible morale boost for fans after the tragedy of 9/11. Though Angle would only hold the title for two weeks, it was one of the most memorable moments of his career.
