The opening match of Clash of Champions 2017 saw Baron Corbin defend his United States Championship against Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode. The general assumption was that Dolph Ziggler’s presence was merely for him to take a pinfall and it was also assumed that Corbin would retain.
However, in a rather shocking swerve that happened for no reason, Ziggler ended up actually winning the championship. It was a solid, fast-paced bout that served its purpose and had a twist at the end of it. However, the twist turned out to be for no reason as Ziggler vacated the title the following night with no explanation and quietly returned over a month later, leaving fans entirely confused.
