‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin benefitted from the MSG Curtain Call Incident and became the go-to guy to push since Triple H lost his. As you know, the tournament is not that highly remembered from 1996, nor was the final against Jake Roberts. What’s still remembered is the iconic catchphrase “Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your a**”.
That catchphrase resulted in in the Austin 3:16 shirts – merchandise which still remains among the highest-selling in WWE history. Either way, it kickstarted what was a brief but legendary career. He would rise by the year and in 1998, was coronated as the face of WWE. The KOTR win was pivotal for his career.
