This is the moment that basically gave birth to the Mr. McMahon character. While it was the interview with Jim Ross afterward that truly debuted the character, it wouldn’t have happened without this moment. In both a storyline and real-life perspective, this would be the biggest heel thing to do to any performer and it’s an incident that remains a subject of discussion even till date.
Had their been no Montreal Screwjob with Bret Hart, there would be no Mr. McMahon character, perhaps the Attitude Era wouldn’t have had the same impact and Austin wouldn’t have been as big a star as he became. The ripple effects this incident had on WWE history is still mind-boggling.
