Around 1999, the Outlaws began to drift apart as they each sought singles success. They would find some success too, with both holding the hardcore championships at one point and Road Dogg even being Intercontinental Champion. Gunn seemed to have the ball rolling in his court, as he even won the King of the Ring tournament and was in a feud against The Great One The Rock.
The Rock was out with Mankind on an episode of SmackDown and Road Dogg would come out, reunite with Billy Gun and challenge The Rock N’ Sock connection to a tag title match. Despite being heels, they were quite over with the crowd. Again, from an in-ring perspective, this match may not be anything special. But that’s secondary. It was the reunion, the excitement and the moment that made this so great. The Outlaws would successfully recapture the tag team titles.
