As far as PPV openers go, you couldn’t really go wrong with Guerrero and Benoit opening. It was the tournament finals for the United States Championship, and Guerrero, who had recently turned heel, was finally finding his stride. As far as the match went, it was a technical classic, with both superstars pulling all the stops to get the United States Championship.
Guerrero tried to weasel his way into a victory, and as luck would have it, Rhyno would interfere and attack Benoit, costing him the match. Guerrero finished his opponent with a frog splash and went on to pick up the United States Championship. Even then, he was getting more popular by the minute.
