What a year 1997 was for Eddie Guerrero. After losing the United States Championship, he set his sights on Chris Jericho and the Cruiserweight Championship. Normally, the crowd was used to seeing the Cruiserweights go at it in high-flying. fast-paced contests, but surprisingly, this match didn’t feature that.
In fact, it was a far more psychological-based match, and the crowd loved every moment of it. Jericho was the energetic babyface who tried to counter Guerrero’s aggression with bursts of offense, but on this night, that didn’t work. Guerrero, after failing in his first attempt, would finally beat Jericho to become Cruiserweight Champion.
