#4.) Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit – Royal Rumble 2003
You would think that when a title challenger is viewed as “secondary” in a storyline, it wouldn’t lead to a very great match. However, Angle vs Benoit was an exception to this rule. Angle won the WWE title from the Big Show and the story still focused on a showdown between Angle and Lesnar.
Despite being somewhat swept aside, Benoit was unphased and put on an absolute classic with the Olympic Gold Medalist. Fans knew that this was a match to drool over and it was exactly as expected – a technical masterclass. They went for over twenty minutes. Angle retained and Benoit fell short, but his time would come…a year later.
