The story of Murphy and Alexander began post-WrestleMania 34, when Alexander had just won the Cruiserweight title. Murphy had failed to make weight and would finally achieve his target and receive a title shot at the end of May. Murphy had been putting on spectacular matches, with the WWE Universe slowly beginning to take notice of him.
The match itself was an incredible encounter from start to finish, with Murphy desperately targetting Alexander’s back to take away the Lumbar check. Alexander proved to be a true resilient fighting champion and found his way around to a victory. It wasn’t Murphy’s time…yet.
