#4.) Retaining the title against Kenny Omega at Tokyo Dome
Kenny Omega won the G1 Climax in 2016, thus becoming the first gaijin (foreigner) to do so. He would then become the first gaijin to main event at Wrestle Kingdom in what was a much-anticipated match against Kenny Omega. The match exceeded all expectations and as you’re probably aware, is considered one of the greatest matches of all time.
Omega outperformed Okada and was so close to winning, but Okada ended up finishing him and surviving by the skin of his teeth. It was a critically acclaimed match and sent the wrestling world abuzz. Omega’s stock had grown significantly after the match, and Okada once again stood strong in the Tokyo Dome.
