3. Evolution vs. The Shield ( WWE Extreme Rules 2014)
Here’s an entry on this list from Batista’s later run in 2014. I’m choosing this one over the one at Payback for no reason other than this was the first and had more intrigue for myself going into it.
What a phenomenal series of matches and what a pleasant surprise it was to see Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista reform Evolution to take on this dominant Shield faction. I’ve always felt that Batista is one of those performers you can put on a classic match as long as he feels motivated and is across the ring from a good opponent and with this six man tag, Batista was very motivated. Much like the first match we spoke of, this was more about building towards the inevitable defeat of the evil boss Triple H, but Batista was game and went a long way and put it over the new young trio, as he ate the determining pinfall.
Batista was fortunate enough to be pulled over by Legends of the era before him and he really gave back here and helped The Shield become, arguably, the only stars of the current era that are believable when being put against stars of the past.
