Triple H and Shawn Michaels were in a heated rivalry that went all the way back. Their match at Royal Rumble 2004 saw a stalemate, with Michaels failing to win the World Heavyweight title. Meanwhile, Chris Benoit had won the Royal Rumble match the same night and then chose to go to RAW to confront Triple H.
Shawn Michaels, obsessed, couldn’t let go of his grudge with Triple H and forcefully interjected himself into Benoit’s beef with Triple H, effectively manipulating his way into the World Heavyweight title match at WrestleMania. The story the three told at WrestleMania XX was fantastic and it was one of the greatest feel-good moments in WWE history when the underdog Benoit triumphed over The Game and HBK.
The match was a war that saw Triple H’s face colored in a crimson mask of blood.
