Ric Flair’s 5 Greatest Rivalries

Ric Flair’s 5 Greatest Rivalries

#3.) Sting

What Harley Race did for Ric Flair, Ric Flair did for Sting. This was the rivalry of a lifetime, with it spanning on-and-off for 13 years. Their first encounter happened to be at Clash Of The Champions 1988, where the young upstart Sting took on the NWA World Champion Ric Flair.

The match was broadcasted on national TV, going head-to-head with WrestleMania IV. The main event went on to a 45-time limit draw and despite the inconclusive finish, the match would be a career-defining one for Sting. He would become a major star and the two would feud for years to come, often fighting for the world title in WCW.

Although they didn’t feud much post-nWo, it’s very telling that Vince McMahon himself personally requested that the final match in WCW Nitro history would be Sting vs Ric Flair. They embraced at the end, putting a full stop to their rivalry. (We’re not counting their interaction in TNA).
